Dr. Schwann grew up in Regina, and completed her medical degree and Family Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan. She obtained her Fellowship in Family Medicine in 2004. Paula received the Michael Krochak Award for outstanding contributions to Family Medicine in 2017 and was named the 2020 Saskatchewan Family Physician of the Year and as one of Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year.
Dr. Paula has pursued her passion for Family Medicine at the Clinic for her entire career, and is thankful for the privilege of providing comprehensive family medical care to multiple generations of families. Paula notes that patient relationships, arising from continuity of care, are her greatest source of professional satisfaction. Paula enjoys teaching medical students and residents. She has contributed to the advancement of the profession in many volunteer positions primarily focused on continuing education and professional governance, including a two-year term as President of the Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians.
Paula is married and the very proud mother of two sons. She enjoys fitness activities including running, biking, skiing and her jealously guarded gym time. She loves spending time at the family cabin near Fort Qu’Appelle.
Dr. Aaron Friggstad BSc, MD, CCFP, FCFP
Dr. Friggstad grew up in Frontier Saskatchewan and on an acreage in Grasswood just south of Saskatoon. He is married and has two sons and a daughter. He received his Bachelor of Science, MD, and Family Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan and started his practice in 2002 at the Saskatoon Community Clinic. He has been with the Cumberland Clinic/Herold Road group since 2005.
His family medicine practice also includes special interests in obstetrics and newborn care, long term care, skin biopsy and toenail procedures, joint injections, and clinical teaching.
When he is not working he loves spending time with his family, road trips, running his kids all over town to their activities, listening to nerdy podcasts, playing guitar, trying out new restaurants, and drinking really strong coffee.
Dr. Myles Deutscher B. Eng., M.D., CCFP.
Dr. Deutscher grew up in Meadow Lake Saskatchewan. He is married with 3 children. He received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and worked for 5 years in an Ontario Refinery before returning home to the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Medical Degree and completed his residency in Family Medicine. He has been in Family Practice since 2009.
His medical interest in Family Medicine also includes: Vasectomies, Aviation medicine, Obstetrics, Joint injections, excisions, IUD insertions.
He enjoys backcountry hiking in the Rocky Mountains. He has been running Half Marathons since 2012. He is also an avid curler. He loves time spent at the family cabin near Meadow Lake.
Dr. Marketa Chaloupka
MD, CCFP, MBA Healthcare Administration
Dr. Marketa Chaloupka grew up in Saskatoon. She is married and has a son. She completed both medical school and her family medicine residency program at the University of Saskatchewan
Dr. Chaloupka offers a full service family practice with special interests in prenatal and obstetrical care as well as minor surgical procedures.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and visiting their home away from home in Canmore, AB and exploring the Rocky Mountains. She also enjoys a great cup of espresso.
Dr. Davis grew up on Whidbey Island in Washington State, USA. She is married with three children. She attended Medical School at St. George’s University and completed her residency in Albany, New York. She has been in Family Practice since 2007, first in NY state and then in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Davis relocated to Saskatoon in 2018 to be nearer to her husband’s family.
Her medical interests in Family Medicine are broad and include Preventative Care, Pediatrics, Diabetes and Hypertension.
She enjoys pursuing her equestrian sport, gardening, and cheering her kids on when they play hockey and softball!
Dr. Robyn Tenaski was born and raised in Saskatoon. She studied nutrition in her early years of schooling and received her Medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her residency training in Saskatoon and started practice in 2016.
Dr Tenaski enjoys all aspects of family medicine, and feels privileged to be a part of her patients’ lives. Her special interests include joint injections, dermatology, excisions and IUD insertions.
Dr. Tenaski is happily married with two daughters at home. She enjoys staying active, spending free time surrounded by family and friends, and vacationing out at Christopher Lake.
Dr. Andrea Symon B. Sc. Adv. Cert. M.D. CCFP.
Dr. Symon grew up in Maidstone, Saskatchewan. She is married with 2 children. She received her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology, and then an Advanced Certificate in Microbiology and Immunology, before deciding to pursue her Medical Degree and residency in Family Medicine. She completed all of her education at the University of Saskatchewan. She has been in Family Practice since 2012.
She enjoys all areas of family medicine and is actively involved in multiple areas of Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Saskatchewan.
She enjoys spending her free time at the family cabin, reading, baking, and spending time at the rink with her kids.
Dr. Sathi completed her medical degree in India and did her Family medicine residency in London, Ontario. She is passionate about family practice and her special interests include geriatrics and pediatrics. She has a strong background in clinical research in Respirology and Endocrinology and served as a Scientific Representative with the Research Ethics Board at the University of Saskatchewan.
She lives in Saskatoon with her husband, two daughters, a dog and two guinea pigs. Dr. Sathi loves reading, watching movies, cooking, travel and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Secord was born in Manitoba and grew up in Winnipeg until his family moved to Saskatoon when he was in elementary school. Since then he has been fortunate to call Saskatoon home and attended high school at Walter Murray Collegiate, then undergraduate and medical school at the University of Saskatchewan. After finishing medical school in 2018 he completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Saskatoon training site and finished this in June of 2020.
Dr. Secord is married, and his wife is a registered nurse. They welcomed their first son, Elliot in February of 2021 and are expecting their second child in February of 2023. Outside of medicine he is an avid sports fan.
His interest within family medicine include the management of chronic diseases and medical education.
Dr. Jennifer Wood pursued her medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan following completion of her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in engineering. She completed her family medicine residency in Saskatoon in 2015 and has been practicing in the city since.
Dr. Wood enjoys most in medicine being part of her patients’ lives at all stages and being privileged to care for whole families. She has a special interest in newborn care as well as minor procedures and IUD insertions.
Dr. Wood is married with three children. She enjoys being active including cycling and cross-country skiing.
Dr. Ava McDonald, MD, BSc (Hon), CCFP
Dr. McDonald was born in Haida Gwaii, BC but considers herself a Saskatchewan girl, as her and her family moved to Hudson Bay, SK when she was five. She studied Anatomy and Cell Biology (Bachelor of Science Honours) as well as Medicine (Doctor of Medicine) at the U of S in Saskatoon. She completed her Family Medicine residency in Moose Jaw. One of the highlights of her training was when she volunteered for the Moose Jaw International Medical Mission, providing medical care in rural areas of Guatemala in 2020.
Dr. McDonald started her Family Medicine practice in 2021. To be closer to family, her and her husband relocated from Moose Jaw back to Saskatoon in fall 2022. She has been at Herold Road Family Physicians since then and enjoys caring for a variety of ages and health concerns; she has a particular interest in office procedures (injections, excisions, IUD/contraceptive implant insertions) as well as prenatal and obstetrical care.
In her spare time, she likes to swim, cross-country ski, and snowboard (as often as she can). Her and her husband enjoy spending time at the family cabin at Candle Lake. They are looking forward to making Saskatoon their home!
